Is it time for you to buy a home?
Happy New Year and welcome to Mooshi the Realtor blog. My blog has been around for quite sometime and I’m about to breathe new life into it. Each week I’m going to feature a local business. I’ll try not to sound like a television commercial and I hope from to time-to-time I’ll be able to offer you specials and discounts to the businesses that I sanction.
My visit this week was to Matter (pronounced like “otter” with an “M” in the beginning) Brothers Furniture and Design store. I was invited by interior designer Judy Bistany. My first few minutes there were an eye-opening experience as I saw first-hand “Matter Brothers commitment to customer service”. I’ll share: an elderly couple was giving one of the sales associates a hard time about a chair they were returning – evidently the store was replacing the chair with a “floor model”. This was NOT to their liking. ” Why couldn’t they have a new one, floor models were inferior, they brought their own transportation for the chair (why is that important?), they were taking their business elsewhere, etc, etc”. The sales associate quickly ran to owner, John Matter, who promptly (after a quick check on the price), offered them $50 off, shook their hands, apologized for any inconvenience or misunderstanding. He did all this with warmth and sincerity. The couple left beaming from ear to ear, with a happy story to tell plenty of future referrals. Now granted there are many companies that would do something similar, but to actually have an owner present and to respond so quickly was very impressive.
And now to the video (and I’m open to suggestions on how to improve future videos):
While the simplicity of the words: “I could do better” or “I could have done more” are always true – they also define you as having failed. Instead create a do-able formula for success with the achievable phrase “I have done better today that I did yesterday”. I doesn’t matter if you have only done a “little better”, it enhances you instead of diminishing you. You see yourself as a success; it does you no good to see yourself as a failure.
Embrace your successes and release your failures. Remember: you’re either getting better or your getting worse. Nothing and no one stays the same.
Voting yesterday was archaic at best. I voted in Miami Beach, FL. The people working at my voting precinct were inexperienced – I got on the line for the wrong district and I was told I was in the wrong building (not the wrong line). When I went back later and found the right line, the machines to read the ballot were broken. My hand-written and marked ballot were put into a box. How out-dated is that? Hand-marking a ballot? In today’s high-tech world? Putting my vote into a box? I feel like my vote didn’t even count.
I just discovered this scrumptious local restaurant – The Tap Tap Restaurant. Now I always new it was there… but here’s what I didn’t know:
I didn’t know it served authentic Haitian cuisine.
I didn’t know they had live music in the evening. (jazzy sounding with a saxophonist).
I didn’t know that the walls were covered bright Haitian-themed murals.
I had their speciality: poached whole yellowtail snapper called “Pwason Gwosel”. There wasn’t even a moral of fish left on the bones when I was finished with it. It melted in my mouth and left me feeling full and satisfied.
See how happy I am:
“The Go-Giver” by Bob Burg and John David Mann was a quick, easy, inspirational and motivational read. (I read it in the 2 hours before bedtime last night). I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to take their career to the next level (or those who work hard but not smart). Here are the 5 laws of stratospheric success and I’m quoting from the book:
Your true worth is determined by how much
more you give in value than you take in payment.
Your income is determined by how many
people you serve and how well you serve them.
Your influence is determined by how
abundantly you place others people’s interest first.
The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.
The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.
